Have you all seen this site? If you sign up, it sends an email to you anytime an offender moves in your area. I actually signed up for the email alerts a few years ago. It is a free service (donations are accepted) that is worth the little bit of time it takes to sign up. I think it's important to be aware of our neighborhood to help keep our kids safe.
